Seven Reasons to Consider
Immanuel Christian School

1

A CLEAR PURPOSE
Touching Every Aspect of School Life

Immanuel Christian School provides a sound academic foundation integrated with a Christian view of God and the world. We assist parents in preparing their children for Christian maturity through development of basic spiritual, academic, physical, and social skills. Students are trained to think critically from a biblical perspective and encouraged to be involved in their community as loving discerning and confident disciples of Christ.

2 THE LIVING CURRICULUM
Teachers, Students, and Parents -- Learning and Working Together

Our teachers are qualified both by professional training and experience and also by personal spiritual maturity. ICS teachers sincerely care for their students and believe God has called them, as educators, to this ministry. One third of our teachers have earned master's degrees, while others receive tuition support to further their professional development.

The important relationship between home and school is nurtured through regular communication. Parents and teachers work together to build a common basis for Christian education and biblical child training. Many opportunities for parent involvement cement the home-school relationship. The School Board, The Room Mothers' Committee, the Parent-Teacher Fellowship, the ICS Prayer Fellowship, and many other regular programs of the school provide opportunities for service. The school admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin, while serving families who desire the distinctive qualities of a Christ-centered education

3 CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
The Best Preparation for Life

All education may profit man's relationship with man, but successful education also develops man's relationship with God. Sound character is rooted in our relationship with God and is demonstrated in our relationship with man. At ICS every effort is made to develop positive peer influences. Children learn to serve and pray for each other and are asked to embrace biblical standards. ICS students are encouraged to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. Daily Bible instruction, prayer, Christian discipline, chapel services, community service projects and a conscious integration of faith and learning help students to live a life in obedience to Jesus Christ.
4 STRONG ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
Meeting Individual Needs at Every Level

ICS has a long history of academic excellence. In comparison with national norms, the average ICS student scores in the top 15% on standardized achievement tests. However, we do not "teach to the test." Our curriculum is Christ-centered, challenging, and designed to help students gain essential tools for academic success. Parents can anticipate, therefore, that ICS students will be nurtured in a godly atmosphere while learning in an environment that maintains high standards.

Kindergarten is developmental in philosophy. It employs a language based, multi-sensory approach that helpsScience Lab children become ready for future academic activity. Literature and writing are used in the lower grades to build a strong foundation in phonics and reading. Elementary skills are reinforced through Bible, reading, math, and language arts, while social studies, science, art, music theory and appreciation, computers, and physical education are increasingly important.

Elementary students learn through guided discovery with "hands on" math and science labs, and receive many opportunities for enrichment through art, drama, creative writing, instrumental music, and field trips throughout the D.C. area.

Middle school grades, sixth through eighth, challenge students to set and meet goals and to develop disciplines that will serve them well in high school. Major subjects include an integrated English and social studies program along with Bible, mathematics, and science. Curriculum requirements consist of music, computers, yearbook, student newspaper, and physical education. Electives include choir, orchestra, art, drama, cooking, sewing, photography, outdoor education, and other activities. Boys and girls compete through the Capital Athletic Conference in soccer, basketball, softball, and track and field. Retreats, chapel, student government, social events, educational trips, and interscholastic competitions enhance middle school life at ICS.

5 EXCELLENT FACILITIES
An Environment for Discovery

Immanuel Christian School operates within the spacious, contemporary facilities of the Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield, Virginia. Constructed in 1981 on 13 acres of land, the 50,000 square foot, air conditioned facility includes 23 classrooms, a library, multipurpose gym, science lab, locker rooms, computer lab, worship center, athletic fields playground, and extra rooms for private music instruction. An additional 20,000 square feet of classroom space with new library and administrative offices were completed in 1992 and 8 additional classrooms were completed in 1997.

6 AFFORDABLE TUITION
A Sacrifice Worth Making

The Christian education provided at ICS is a lifelong investment influencing every aspect of a young person's life. ICS tuition is reasonable, and our rates are comparable to other local Christian schools. Moreover, the school provides a program of financial assistance for families that demonstrate genuine financial need. Trusting God for tuition may be challenging, but God provides financial resources to parents every year and assurance that the sacrifice is worth it.

7 AN EDUCATION IN EXCELLENCE
A Tradition on which to Build a Future

The tradition began when the leadership of Immanuel Bible Church opened the school in the fall of 1976. Today the church continues to support the ministry at ICS by providing facilities and a portion of the school's budget. Members of the ICS School Board are elected from Immanuel church membership and operate under the authority of the church's Board of Elders. Together with the ICS Administrator they oversee the school's commitment to excellence.

At ICS, the motto "God with us -- in the classroom"   is a summation of our challenge and purpose. We hope that ICS may be of service to you when considering a quality Christian education for your child.
